From Strengths Within, Families Grow
Empowering vulnerable mothers in Kenya to heal, rise, and build sustainable futures.
OUR STORY
The Jonica Foundation was not born in a boardroom. It began in real spaces, in conversations, in community visits, and in the lived realities of women and girls whose needs are too often overlooked.
Our journey started by listening.
- In Nairobi, young women spoke about navigating their reproductive health in silence, held back by stigma and misinformation.
- In Kiambu, teen mothers shared the weight of rebuilding their lives with little guidance or support.
- In Narok, we encountered girls at risk of harmful practices and limited access to accurate, life-saving information.
- In Kilifi, women opened up about facing menopause and reproductive health challenges without the knowledge or care they deserved.
- In Homa Bay, we engaged women and girls, who continue to be excluded from essential health services and opportunities.
Across these counties, different contexts told the same story: too many women and girls are being left to navigate critical moments of their lives alone.
We did not arrive at this understanding by assumption. We listened, through conversations, community engagement, and partnerships with local actors who see these realities every day. What we heard was consistent, urgent, and impossible to ignore.
And so, the Jonica Foundation became a response.
- A response to silence.
- A response to exclusion.
- A response to systems that continue to overlook the very women and girls who need them most.
We have sat with survivors of gender-based violence who needed more than empathy, they needed safe, trusted spaces. We have walked alongside women managing Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS) in confusion and isolation. We have seen how stigma, disability, poverty, and geography intersect to limit access to even the most basic health information and services, and we chose to act.
Jonica Foundation exists to shift this reality, to ensure that women and girls are not just reached, but truly included, informed, and empowered.
Our work is not charity. It is justice, It is about shifting power, placing knowledge, resources, and voice back into the hands of women and girls. But the reality is this: the need is greater than what we can meet alone.
Every day, there are more women and girls still waiting, waiting for information, for support, for someone to believe in their right to live fully and freely.
This is why we invite partners, donors, and allies to stand with us. Because changing lives is possible, but transforming systems, restoring dignity, and reaching every woman and girl who needs us, that takes all of us.

Our Approach
At Jonica Foundation, we walk alongside vulnerable women and adolescent girls, including those with disabilities, teen mothers, older women, survivors of violence, and refugee women, to meet them where they are and respond to the challenges they face every day.
We don’t design programs in a boardroom and deliver them from afar. We listen, learn, and build solutions together with the women and girls we serve.
Our work focuses on what really matters:
- Giving women and girls clear, practical health information so they can make decisions about their bodies and futures
- Creating spaces where voices that are often silenced, because of age, disability, or stigma are heard and amplified
- Supporting women and girls to gain skills, resources, and confidence to earn, save, and plan for their lives
- Working with communities, service providers and local leaders to change the systems that hold women and girls back.
