JIBU RAPID RESPONSE
Jibu Rapid Response is Jonica Foundation’s disaster-relief and emergency programme.
It mobilises immediate support for vulnerable households affected by floods, fires, drought,
displacement and other emergencies while helping communities move from crisis towards
recovery.
The Problem
When disaster strikes, families can lose in one night what they spent years building. Kenya continues to experience floods, drought and other climate-related emergencies. An NDMA assessment of the 2025 short rains reported approximately 1,400 households displaced
around Lakes Baringo and Bogoria, while flooding also disrupted access to education and other services in affected areas.
During emergencies, households may suddenly need:
• Food.
• Safe drinking water.
• Clothing.
• Blankets.
• Shelter.
• Menstrual products.
• Medication.
• Cooking items.
• Household supplies.
Women, children, persons with disabilities and older persons often experience additional risks.
Target Group
• Disaster-affected households.
• Women and children.
• Women-headed households.
• Persons with disabilities.
• Older persons.
• Families displaced by floods or fires.
• Drought-affected communities.
• Extremely vulnerable households.
Short Term Goal
To establish a functional emergency-response mechanism capable of mobilizing essential support
for up to 500 affected households when emergencies occur.

Our Foundation for This Work
Jonica Foundation already works through community networks, County SRHR Ambassadors and
grassroots partners. These structures can help identify needs quickly, communicate with affected communities and connect people with available services. Jibu strengthens this network into an organised emergency-response mechanism.
